“She lived; she loved; she forgave, She Laughed”.
These are the words that she would like engraved on her tombstone one day…

The story of Desiree

I had the same 2 friends all through primary school, we did high school together.  The one Teacher, who impacted my life, without me then knowing why, was Miss Adriaans.  Miss Adriaans had a sweet and gentle spirit. In hindsight I now realize that it was because Miss Adriaans was a believer.  Besides Miss Adriaans the other special person who inspired me is my MOM.  A hardworking woman who does not realise just “how phenomenal she is”.  I drew much strength from her.  Mom is a woman of perseverance because ‘she had to be’ due to her set of personal challenges. She endured so much hardship but she kept on going, working long and hard hours.  And she always washed our hair – something which still baffles me to this day.  As a child I remember the struggles and hardships mom faced but somehow she is still here – she’s still standing.  The one thing I drew from my mom is her endurance and her perseverance.

Des is the 2nd last of 4 children – 2 girls and 2 boys.

She’s learnt to love herself.  She’s not quite sure when it happened, but the moment she understood how much she’s loved by God the Father, she started to fall in love with herself.  The more intimate her relationship with her ‘Heavenly Father’, the more she got to love herself.

If afforded the chance ‘to do life over’ she confesses that she would have done self-love a lot sooner and that is the message she would like to give women out there!  Because you cannot love anything- let alone somebody else, unless you love yourself first!  You will always seek for validation in someone else, yet your worth is found in no one else – only in God – it starts with Him and is poured out in you and that alone lead her to a place of self-love.

What is your relationship like with your husband?
Apart from my heavenly Father – my husband leaves me speechless.  I have fallen in love with my husband all over again! My covenant with my Father is connected to my covenant with my husband.” I can honestly say that my husband won’t see me ‘bleed’ and leave me and that is one of the reasons I love him so much.  ‘I know he has my back.  He is my best friend.  He’s a man with so many flaws and that is why he is so perfect’. Every day I get excited when I know it is time for him to come home. I check myself in the mirror because my hubby is coming home – to me.  He is the only person who can make me feel like this besides our Heavenly Father.  [And here I got goosebumps listening to the emotion she shares].  “Love feels like Nigel’.

Out of this interview we got to meet a phenomenal woman. Who like so many other women has faced and overcame bitter challenges.  A woman who loves God whole-heartedly.  A woman who gets giddy at the end of the day at the thought of her husband and best friend coming home to her.  A woman grounded in Faith.  She’s also a woman with a heart for her community. She goes out every Wednesday with the help of others and serves bread to her community.   In winter times they serve a cup of soup and shows God’s love to the needy.

She contributes to society by being a positive source of energy and exudes confidence and holds high the importance of ‘self-love’.  She’s a mother of 2 girls.  Together with her husband they do couples ministry and how fitting that she’s also a spirited speaker at Wives/Women’s Seminars.  She lives well…she laughs hard, and loves even harder.  She’s not afraid of being alone with herself because she’s come to realize how important it is to love yourself first, before you can love others.  She’s drawn much strength from her role models, one of which is her darling Mom.  When you talk to her you get infected by her loving spirit and her Faith. She readily laughs at herself.  She admits she took herself much too serious at some point in her life.  But right now she feels ‘in love with life’ and her husband!  She loves reading books on counselling, and self-empowerment – and The Bible- of course.  A good cup of coffee and the ocean are two of her guilty pleasures.

What a GREAT, POSITIVE STORY
